AI, ML, model — same thing?
People use these three words interchangeably — and they shouldn’t.
AI is the umbrella. Artificial intelligence is the broad goal: machines doing things that normally need human intelligence — understanding language, recognising images, making decisions.
ML is the approach. Machine learning is one way to build AI: instead of hand-coding rules, you let a system learn patterns from data.
A model is the result. Train an ML approach on data and you get a model — the actual trained thing that takes an input and produces an output. ChatGPT, for example, runs on a model.
So they nest: a model is produced by machine learning, which is one approach to AI. Two minutes to fix this in your head forever.
